GRAND ARMY OF
THE REPUBLIC POST RECORDS
We receive many requests for
information about various G.A.R. Posts that were located throughout our
nation. The G.A.R. did not maintain the records of the
memberships of the individual Posts in a centralized location, making
it very difficult to find the complete records of a specific
Post. Some records were placed in local historical societies,
libraries, veterans posts, state archives, but many were simply
discarded or have not been found yet.
The G.A.R. Museum is fortunate to have
the bulk of the records of Post 2 of Philadelphia, the founder of our
museum. We also recently received many of the records of Ellis
Post 6 of Germantown, Philadelphia. Listed below are Posts for
which we have partial or fragmentary records.
